Community Survey - former Kingston High School site - 2011.

Ideas for the former Kingston High School Site.

Background.
In 2008 the Master Plan for the Kingston Central Area was reviewed because of the planned transfer of Kingston High School to its new location.
Our community group, named Kingborough Community Action, has been formed because we are concerned that the Master Plan fails to make use of the former High School site to create a magnificent community heart for Kingborough. We want to find out how widespread this view is among the community.
Responding to pressure from the community the Premier and our Mayor have recently agreed to pursuing selling the site to Kingborough Council under agreed terms. Their agreement recognises the need to involve the community in planning the site’s future development, which is great news.
Kingborough Community Action supports these proposals and wants to ensure close evaluation of the potential for retaining some of the former High School buildings in any mix of development proposals.
We have trialled the survey Kingston High School students of grades 7, 8, 9 and 10. The results will be posted as a Reference document on our website. Before doing so we would like the community, as broad a cross-section as possible, and including school students from throughout Kingborough, to complete and return our survey. We would like to invitation to be distributed widely and to get large numbers of returns. The results will be published on our website and made available to Council for its consideration during planning for the site.

The Survey:
The following questions are designed to determine your views and collective views of students about potential uses of the site and the existing buildings. The only personal information collected is your age.
The questions about the site have been based on ideas obtained at community based workshops organised in developing the Master Plan 2008. Additional questions have been prepared to determine potential uses of particular buildings or rooms. (for your information, the plan of the school buildings in included on the Reference Documents page of our website).
There is additional space following the table of questions for you to write, in more detail, particular ideas that you have for the former Kingston High School site.
